Women's Lacrosse

Waltham, Mass. (April 24)-The Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team fell to the Falcons of Bentley College 25-7 in NE-10 action on Friday night. The loss drops the Hawks to 5-9 overall and 4-6 in the NE-10, while the win lifts Bentley to 9-8 overall and 7-3 in conference games.

The 25 goals scored is a new program record for most goals in a single game for the Falcons led by senior Alyssa Ritchie (North Andover, Mass.) with nine points on seven goals and two assists.

After Bentley netted the first four goals, the Hawks hit the scoreboard just over five minutes into the game on a goal from freshman Meghan Smith (Pittsford, N.Y.). Sophomore Courtney Ford (Concord, Mass.) and senior Michaela Rocha (Rye, N.H.) would also score first half tallies, but the Falcons would take a 15-3 lead into halftime.

Ford, Rocha and Smith would all net their second goals of the game and Emily Traicoff (Beverly, Mass.) would get on the board for Saint Anselm, but Bentley would prove to be to much and take the 25-7 final.

Saint Anselm netminder Katherine O'Hara (Norwell, Mass.) made seven saves and allowed all 25 goals in the losing effort, while Bentley goalies Christina Guglielmo (Fair Haven, N.J.) and Kate Poznick (Fitchburg, Mass.) combined to make 10 saves with Guglielmo picking up the win.

With regular season conference games coming to an end, the Falcons have already clinched a playoff spot and will play Merrimack in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, April 29. If Merrimack loses to Southern Connecticut on Saturday, Bentley will be the fourth-seed and will host the game, if Merrimack wins, they will host. Saint Anselm, who would have clinched the sixth spot with a win, will now have to have a coin flip to see if they will make the NE-10 post-season tournament which will take place this weekend at the NE-10 Headquarters.

The Hawks return to action Sunday, April 26th, as they will host C.W. Post on senior day for a 1 p.m. game at Grappone Stadium.
