Hawks 2nd in 2008-09 ECAC Women's East Hockey League Preseason Poll

Centerville, Mass. (October 30)-The Saint Anselm women's ice hockey team was picked 2nd in the 2008-09 ECAC Women's East Hockey League preseason poll. The Hawks finished last year 23-2-1 overall and 17-1-1 in league play.

The Hawks return senior forward Kelsey Johnson (Byfield, Mass.) who was named to the First-Team All-ECAC East for her 18 goal, 12 assist, and 30 point season. Also returning is senior forward Kathleen Twomey (Londonderry, N.H.) who recorded a nine-goal, 13 assist season for a total of 22 points. Junior Daniella Lyons (Hebron, Maine) and her 14 points, as well as sophomore Alexa Hingston (Charlestown, Mass.) and her 16 points, also returns to the Hawks lineup for the 2008-09 campaign.

As a team the Hawks ranked high in the league in many categories. They were second in scoring offense with 87 goals and 4.58 goals per game, while also placing first in scoring defense by only giving up 16 goals and .84 goals per contest. Saint Anselm also placed 2nd in the league in penalty killing (89.7%), 1st in power play goals (28), and 3rd in power play efficiency (23.7%) in the ECAC Women's Hockey East.

Manhattanville College was voted the top team in the 2008-09 ECAC Women's East Hockey League preseason poll. 

The Hawks open up their season at Sullivan Arena on Friday, November 7th, as they will host Norwich University at 7 p.m.
