October 12, 2009

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Eric Moriarty (Center Harbor, N.H.) was named the Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Freshman of the Week for the week of October 5-11.  This is the second time that Moriarty has received this honor, the first of which came the week of September 22-28.  Moriarty went 1-1 in the team's two games this past week.  He gave up two goals to the fourth-place Merrimack Warriors on Tuesday evening, but then returned home to lead the team to their second shutout of the season, his second career shutout, in a 1-0 victory over the Stonehill College Skyhawks.

Moriarty had 16 saves in the two games (seven on Tuesday and nine on Saturday).  He currently leads the Northeast-10 with a .895 save percentage and an average of 6.80 saves per game.  He leads the second-place Merrimack goalkeeper, who averages 5.57 each game, by well over one save per game.  He is also fifth in the conference with a 0.80 goals allowed average.  He and teammate John Corridan (Holliston, Mass.) combine to lead the conference in team saves with 75.  They lead the second-place Saint Rose by 10 saves.

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, October 14th, as they travel across town to take on the first-place Southern New Hampshire Penmen at 7:00 pm.  The Saint Anselm goalkeeper will be put to the challenge against the Penmen, who are 8-0-1 in the Northeast-10 and lead the conference in points scored.
