Caflisch Named as Head Ski Coach

Manchester, N.H. (December 11) -- Melissa Caflisch has been named as the Saint Anselm College men's and women's skiing head coach, announced Ed Cannon, director of athletics.
"We are excited to have someone with Melissa's background as the head coach of our men's and women's ski teams," Cannon said. "Her experience competing at the collegiate level, as well as her knowledge of the sport, will help our teams compete in what is a very competitive conference."
Caflisch comes to the Hilltop after an extremely successful collegiate career that saw her earn All-America honors seven times while competing for Plymouth State University. As a senior, Caflisch was a three-time All-America honoree at the U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association's National Championships, placing third in slalom, 10th in giant slalom and fifth in the combined alpine. She was named as the 2007-2008 Plymouth State College Female Athlete of the Year for her performance.
She has worked at the Peek n' Peak Resort and Conference Center since 2004, where she serves as the Junior Race Team Coach. In that position, Caflisch supervises and instructs slalom and giant slalom sanctioned New York State Junior Race Team skiers from ages 13 to 18.
In addition, Caflisch worked at the Mount Hood Summer Ski Camp in Oregon, where she coached with 2006 Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety, former Olympian Phil Mahre and 2006 NCAA Champion Scott Veenis.
Prior to Plymouth State, Caflisch competed during the 2003-2004 season in the U.S. Alpine National Championships in Alyeska, Alaska, and also at the NorAm Finals in Georgian Peaks, Ontario.
A 2008 graduate of Plymouth State University, Caflisch earned a bachelor of science degree in marketing, with a minor in communication. She was also a three-time team captain of the ski team while at Plymouth.
Caflisch currently resides in Manchester, New Hampshire.
