Three Hawks Named to NEILA All-New England Team

Manchester, N.H. -- Three members of the Saint Anselm men's lacrosse team have been named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-New England First Team, as voted by the region's head coaches.

Senior attack Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.) earned All-New England honors for the first time in his career and was also a Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference selection. The team's leading scorer, Murphy led the Hawks with 51 points on 36 goals and 15 assists in 2009.  He ranked fourth in the Northeast-10 in goals per game, fifth in points per game and 10th in assists per game. For his career, Murphy finished with 166 points and 125 goals, along with 41 assists. His 166 points rank him fourth on the all-time Saint Anselm scoring list. In addition, his 125 goals is third all-time, making him one of just three Hawks to surpass the 100-goal mark for his career. Murphy was a Second Team All-Conference selection in 2008.

Senior midfielder Matt Surette (Wakefield, Mass.) earns All-New England honors for the second consecutive season and was also named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team, his first NE-10 All-Conference honors of his career. An All-New England Second Team honoree in 2008, Surette had 30 goals and four assists for 34 points this season. For his career, he has 81 goals, ranking him eighth all-time at Saint Anselm.

Junior Kevin DeBenedetto (Reading, Mass.) becomes the first three-time All-New England First Team selection in Saint Anselm history. He also earned Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team honors for the first time in his career. DeBenedetto led the Hawks with 17 caused turnovers and had 33 ground balls to go with three goals and one assist.
