Hawks Take 20th at NEIGA Championships
October 20, 2009MANCHESTER, N.H. -- The Saint Anselm men's golf team played the second and final round of the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championships this afternoon. The Hawks improved five strokes over the first round, but dropped one place to finish 20th out of the 39 participating schools. The University of Connecticut, who sat in third place after round one, dropped 14 strokes to win the tournament with a 582 (298, 284), 59 strokes ahead of the Hawks' 641 (323, 318).
Freshman Tyler Fay (Barrington, R.I.) led the Hawks, shooting a consistent 158 (79, 79), and finishing in 64th overall out of 194 participants. Senior James Henebry (Hampton Falls, N.H.) finished just one stroke behind Fay, shooting a 159 (89, 79) and finishing in 71st. Freshman Emilio Bardini (Salem, Mass.), the only Hawk to shoot better in round one, shot a 162 (79, 83), and finished in 92nd. Freshman Brian Foley (Worcester, Mass.), who showed the most improvement between rounds, hit a Hawk-best 78 today and jumped up 26 spots to 99th with a 163 (85, 78). Junior Dylan McSparren (Portsmouth, R.I.) dropped three strokes off his first round total to shoot a 167 (85, 82) and finish in 124th.
Today's competition concludes the Hawks' 2009 golf schedule.
