Coach Dickson on Mariano: "We expect for John to be an integral part of our backcourt and his versatility will be a big plus for this team. John will need to give us some minutes at the point guard position to start the season and also will get playing time on the wing. He can both dribble and pass the ball and should be able to get us organized and into our offense. John is a very physical and tough basketball player who plays the game with a good competitive edge."
