Hawks Lose to No. 8 Merrimack on Senior Day

Manchester, N.H. (October 24) -- On Saturday afternoon on Senior Day, the Saint Anselm field hockey team dropped a 7-2 final to No. 8 Merrimack in Northeast-10 play. Saint Anselm ends the 2009 season at 1-16 overall and 0-10 in the Northeast-10.
Prior to the game, the Hawks honored seniors Maddie Cantarow (Norwood, Mass.), Karrie Muma (No. Falmouth, Mass.) and manager Gina Viola as part of the Senior Day activities.
After Merrimack's Jaclyn Germano got the Warriors on top just 2:08 into the game before the Hawks equalized things on a goal from Ellen O'Neil (Willington, Conn.). That goal was assisted on by Caitlin Hurley (Cape Elizabeth, Maine). The Warriors then scored six unanswered goals until Cantarow scored off a penalty corner early in the second half to make it 7-2. It was Cantarow's team-best fourth goal of the season.
Lindsay MacDonald (Dedham, Mass.) got the start for the Hawks, making five first-half saves. Megan Sullivan (Braintree, Mass.) played the second half, making one save. Kerri Bergquist made six saves in the win for Merrimack.
