Boston, Mass. (October 28) -- For the second time this season, Saint Anselm freshman quarterback Michael Pierce (Andover, Mass.) has been named as the Greater Boston Gridiron Club Gold Helmet Award winner, awarded this afternoon at Dillon Fieldhouse at Harvard University. Pierce was also named as the Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, earned NE-10 Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season and was named as the ECAC Division II Offensive Player of the Week.
Pierce was 36-for-74 passing for 390 yards and three touchdowns, while also running 15 times for 106 yards. Pierce also finished the game with 496 yards of total offense, a Saint Anselm single-game school record. Pierce also set single-game school records in passing attempts (74), passing yards (390), total plays of offense (89) and yards of total offense (496). Each of those four marks are also Northeast-10 Conference season highs. His 74 pass attempts and 89 plays of total offense are also Northeast-10 Conference single-game records.
In addition to their single-game records, Pierce each also set numerous Saint Anselm single-season records with two games still to be played. Pierce now holds the mark for total offense in a season with 2,283 yards, the first player to go over 2,000 yards, along with the passing yards mark at 2,051 yards. In addition, his 493 plays of total offense breaks the record of 491 set last season by now-sophomore Marc Wilson (Farmington, Conn.)
