The Hawks got in the win column in October with a record-setting 48-42 road win over Merrimack as the two teams combined for 1,200 total yards and the Hawks rewrote the Saint Anselm record book in the process. In the game, Saint Anselm junior running back Luke St. Marie (Mill Creek, Wash.) ran for a then single-game record 241 yards and earned the Gold Helmet Award for his performance. He is the first Hawk since 2005 to pick up the award, given by the New England College Football Writers Association. Also that week, freshman quarterback Marc Wilson (Farmington, Conn.) earned both Northeast-10 Player and Freshman of the Week honors for his play.
In the win at Pace, Wilson again led the offense with a Saint Anselm record 285 yards on the ground as he was named the league's Player of the Week for a second time. In that game, St. Marie also surpassed the 100-yard mark for the second time in the season with a 144-yard effort.
Wilson was named as the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year, while St. Marie earned First Team All-Conference honors as a running back. In addition, newcomers Kyle Hayes (Merritt Island, Fla.) and Bryant Lane (Norwood, Mass.) were both named to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team for their performances.
As a team, the Hawks improved in nearly every area both on offense and defense. The team had a +5 turnover ratio and against Bentley forced a single-game record six turnovers by the Falcons. The team was also ranked No. 2 in the league in pass defense, the program's highest ranking ever.
On offense, the team set over a dozen records and ranked among the national leaders in a number of categories. The team led the league in rushing yards per game for the first time ever at 229 yards per contest and was 12th in the nation in that category. The team broke the single-game rushing record as a team twice during the season, including an impressive 448-yard effort in the win at Pace. The team also rushed 519 times, shattering the previous team record. That mark was paced by a 270-attempt season by Wilson as he rushed for a Saint Anselm record 1,214 yards. Wilson is the first Hawk to break the 1,000-yard rushing mark for a season.
