Lamptey, Rocha Headline Athletic Awards Night

Manchester, N.H. (April 28) -- At the 46th Annual Athletics Awards Night on Monday evening at Sullivan Arena, the Department of Athletics recognized each of the College's 20 intercollegiate athletic programs and their accomplishments both athletically and academically in the 2008-2009 season.
The program featured the awarding of the Male and Female Athlete of the Year Awards, the Male and Female Sportsmanship Awards and the Male and Female Senior Varsity Student-Athlete Awards.
Earning Male Athlete of the Year honors was senior Sam Lamptey (Worcester, Mass.), a member of the men's soccer and men's basketball teams. A Second Team All-Conference selection, Lamptey led the Northeast-10 Conference in goals and points per game and he was fifth in the Northeast-10 in assist per game. A one-time Northeast-10 Player of the Week, Lamptey was named to the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll three times. He finished with 11 goals and five assists for 27 points, including two game-winning goals.
The Female Athlete of the Year was senior Michaela Rocha (Rye, N.H.), a member of the Saint Anselm women's lacrosse team. This season, Rocha set the Saint Anselm single-season school records for goals with 57, assists with 34 and points with 91 and leads the Northeast-10 in all three categories. Her 91 points broke the previous single-season mark by a remarkable 30 points. In addition, Rocha is ranked in the top 10 nationally in both goals and points per game and has been named to the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll four times.
Earning the Male and Female Sportsmanship Awards were Chris McMillan (Morrisonville, N.Y.) of the football team and Erin Forbes (Hanover, Maine) from the women's ski team. McMillan was a three-year starter and four-year letterwinner for the football team, while Forbes has been the number two skier for the Hawks since her freshman year and was a team captain this season.
The Male and Female Senior Varsity Student-Athlete Awards were given by Fr. Augustine Kelly, Dean of the College. Winning the men's award was senior Anthony Galluzzo (Londonderry, N.H.) from the men's soccer team, while the women's winner was Laura Nason (Shelton, Conn.) of the women's tennis team. Both are four-year members of their respective teams and both are members of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Student-Athlete Honor Society.
